Makeup Artist for Mature Skin
Flawless, age-appropriate makeup for women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond for weddings, special events, photoshoots, and makeovers throughout Connecticut.
Finding a makeup artist who truly understands mature skin is harder than it should be...
Most artists are trained on younger skin, which affects how makeup is applied to your face. If you've had your makeup done professionally and walked away feeling overdone, cakey, or unlike yourself, it wasn't your skin. It was the artist.
Jennifer Ballard is a Connecticut makeup artist with 18 years of experience specializing in mature skin for weddings, special events, photoshoots, and any occasion where you want to look polished, natural, and completely like yourself.
WHY YOUR MAKEUP STOPPED WORKING
As your skin changes, so does the way makeup behaves on it. What worked beautifully in your 30s and 40s can suddenly look heavy, settle into fine lines, or fade by midday — and it's not because you're applying it wrong.
Mature skin tends to become drier and more dehydrated over time. Fine lines and wrinkles become more prominent. Things shift that didn't before. Hyperpigmentation, redness, rosacea, and loss of color in the lips are all common changes. And the shades that once flattered you may no longer work the same way.
Most makeup — and most makeup artists — aren't designed with any of this in mind. The formulas are developed for younger skin. The techniques are taught on younger faces. And the result on mature skin is makeup that emphasizes the very things you're trying to minimize.
It doesn't have to be that way.
What To Look For In A Makeup Artist For Mature Skin
Experience with Mature Skin … on Real Clients
Tips and tutorials are everywhere. What matters is hands-on experience working on hundreds of real faces with real skin concerns — fine lines, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, loss of lip color, sagging, dryness. There's no shortcut for that kind of expertise.
Current Techniques
Makeup trends and application techniques evolve. A good makeup artist for mature skin stays current- not chasing every trend, but knowing which modern techniques and formulas actually work better on mature skin than approaches that were standard ten or twenty years ago.
Someone Who Understands It Personally
There's a difference between an artist who has read about mature skin and one who lives in it. Jennifer has mature skin herself — she understands the frustration firsthand and brings that personal perspective to every client she works with.
A Light Hand and a Trained Eye
Less is almost always more on mature skin - and this is where many younger, less experienced artists go wrong. They apply too much product, too heavily, which settles into fine lines and ages the face rather than lifting it. Knowing when to stop is just as important as knowing what to apply.
How I Approach Mature Skin
The first thing I want to know is what's happening with your skin and what you're putting on it right now.
If you're using a retinol, it can cause makeup to flake if the skin isn't properly hydrated underneath. If you're using hydroquinone, it can create a color difference between your face and neck that throws off foundation matching entirely.
Most of the time, I can tell what a client's skin needs within a few seconds of touching it.
Getting this right before the application starts is what separates a result that looks flawless from one that looks done.
What's Included in Your Mature Makeup Application
Every application begins with skin prep: moisturizing and priming customized to your skin type. For mature skin this step is more involved than most artists allow time for, and it's what determines how everything else performs on your face.
Foundation & Concealer
The right formula matters more on your mature skin than anything else. I use foundations that move with your skin rather than sitting on top of it, and concealers specifically chosen because they hydrate rather than crease — especially under your eyes where most products settle and emphasize fine lines.
Placement
I place your blush and contour higher to lift rather than flatten. Your eye shadow is applied with a lifting technique that opens your eye and counteracts any drooping without looking overdone.
Powder. Or Not
If your skin is very dry or textured, powder stays off entirely. If your skin can handle it, I'll add a small amount of hydrating powder only where you need it — typically just your T-zone. This is a judgment call I make based on your skin in the moment, not a one-size-fits-all step. And don’t worry, we always use a hydrating setting spray to lock your look in place.
The Finish
Polished, natural, and age-appropriate. You'll look like yourself — just the best version.

What Clients Say
“As I have gotten older the makeup routine I have done for years has not provided the results I have wanted. In the past, I have had my makeup done professionally, but was never truly satisfied with the results. Jennifer always made me feel comfortable and was extremely knowledgeable when personalizing my skincare needs.”
— Jaime Martone, Milford CT"I went to her because I wanted a new look. The challenge is my skin is sensitive. But it wasn't an issue at all for her. She knew exactly which products to use on my face. I'd gotten my makeup done at some events before and was never happy. I'm so glad I went to a professional makeup artist this time."
— Dawn Barson, Madison CT“Jenn was wonderful, attentive, professional and we could not have been more pleased with the end result.
”
"Jenn did a fabulous makeup for a party that I was attending. The makeup was absolutely beautiful! My face was so smooth and the makeup lasted all night."
— Nadia Saenz, Special Event ClientWhat to Expect After Your Appointment
The reaction I see most often when a mature skin client looks in the mirror isn't surprise at how much makeup they're wearing… It's surprise at how little it looks like makeup at all.
Lots of WOW, WOW…
They feel younger. Emphasized eyes. More confident. Like themselves again.
That's my goal every. single. time.
